Choosing the right Jet Orientation Course is vital to your employment prospects.

Our mission

"The purpose of this course is to give commercial pilots of varying ability the handling skills, knowledge and confidence necessary to secure an airline position flying jet aircraft. Much more than just a qualification, it provides a solid foundation for passing a simulator assessment, followed by the steep learning curve of type rating training”

A word of caution

Jet Orientation Courses are not regulated in any way, so any company can offer one, using any kind of flight simulator. Just this year, a number of unregulated companies have begun offering Jet Orientation Courses, with some of them using non-certified simulators.

To be sure that you receive proper training (and that airlines will actually recognise your JOC qualification) you should only consider Jet Orientation Courses which are run by established ATOs, using a flight simulator that is certified by the CAA.

Virtual Aviation Flight Training was formed in 1998 and is an EASA Approved Training Organisation (GBR.ATO.0385) regulated by the UK Civil Aviation Authority. Our B737-800 simulator is certified with the approval number UK/VIR-126.

We wanted our 'Next Generation' Jet Orientation Course to be the best on the market, with the most modern and relevant content, delivered in a concise, effective and affordable package.

Jet Orientation Courses last three days and take place on our new Boeing 737-800 flight simulator at Cambridge Airport, near London Stansted.

The JOC can optionally be combined with our MCC Course. The combined MCC+JOC lasts a total of 12 days and includes 32 hours simulator time. The combined course is ideal for pilots who have not already completed an MCC.

What makes our Jet Orientation Course different?

The right aircraft type

We don't believe in using a generic jet simulator. Our Jet Orientation Course is run on the glass cockpit Boeing 737-800, which also happens to be the aircraft type most commonly used by airlines for simulator assessments.

Individual attention

With small class sizes and no more than two students per instructor, our instructors have more time to focus on your individual performance and address any areas which need particular attention.

Current instructors

We don't save on costs by employing instructors who retired from flying many years ago. Our instructor requirements are exceptionally high, and most JOC instructors are actually current B737-800 pilots.

Intensive and focussed

We designed this intensive course to include the most relevant content and optimum amount of classroom and simulator training. You will be surprised how rapidly your jet handling performance develops over the two days.

Valuable experience

This course will give you more than just a qualification. The B737-800 handling experience will serve as excellent preparation for a simulator assessment and the steep learning curve of undergoing type rating training.

Proven track record

Virtual Aviation is a leading provider of specialist simulator training and we have helped many hundreds of commercial pilots secure their first airline position in the 16 years since the company was formed in 1998.

Our simulator

Our simulator is the most advanced Boeing 737 fixed-base simulator in the UK.

Genuine Boeing 737 Flight Dynamics Model

What's the point in using a 737 simulator that doesn't fly like a 737?  The result could be negative training. Our simulator features genuine Boeing 737NG flight dynamics, and it can be configured as a 737-800W or 737-700.

Collimated Visual System

Our fixed-base simulator is the only one in the UK to be fitted with a collimated visual system. Because of the cost, you would normally only find a collimated visual system on a Level-D full flight simulator (FFS). The 200x40 'wraparound' collimated visual system creates a true 3D environment outside the cockpit, and is far superior to simply projecting the computer-generated image onto a flat or curved white panel.

Rockwell Collins EP-8000 Image Generator

The EP-8000 is widely recognised as the most advanced image generator available for new full flight simulators, and this is the first time it has been integrated into a fixed-base simulator. It provides the best possible scenery, weather and custom airport models. The EP-8000 is actually superior to the image generators on most full flight simulators currently in service.

Testimonials

The simulator is the most realistic I have seen and the level of experience in the instructing team is excellent. Everyone at Virtual Aviation were extremely friendly from the moment I walked through the door to even after I left. The JOC course was very relaxed throughout and the large amount of information conveyed over the two days was delivered at an excellent pace.
— Mark Byrom
I would highly recommend the JOC at Virtual Aviation to anyone who hasn’t done a JOC. The pre-course materials are useful and extensive. The course covers a lot over the two days, but never feels like you are trying to do too much. All of the staff were friendly and helpful, the instructors were excellent and the simulator was great. The whole two days were very useful, and very enjoyable.
— Tom W.
I’ve just heard that I am hired by Ryanair and I am starting my training on 12th May. Vincent is hired at Ryanair as well, so that’s also good news! So finally I can start my career at a big airline!
— Joost K.
